5 Things Every Bride Should Know About Their Wedding Flowers

Updated: Jun 5

There's a handful of things you NEED to know in order to build a bouquet that will make your special day perfect... perfect for you! Below is a list of the posts you should read in order to be fully prepared for your next meeting with your wedding florist!

1. Color

The color of your bouquet is a big deal! Sometimes, you can start by choosing your wedding color palette and go from there. Other times, it can be more complicated than that, but we're here to help you! Click here for our complete guide on bouquet color. Your florist will be able to help you with any questions specific to your wedding!

2. Size

How big is your bouquet going to be? There's a lot to consider when handling this decision- mainly, "Do I want to be the center of attention or should the flowers take the spotlight?" Sandy has A LOT of thoughts on bouquet size and you can take a look at her ideas here. She has 30 years of experience with a variety of brides, so you can trust her judgement when it comes to these things.

3. Type/Style

Bouquet type is just as important as the size and color! Do you want a large, cascading-style bouquet or a tight round bouquet? This issue is more easily explored by perusing Pinterest or Instagram and looking at different bouquet styles to feel out what you do and don't like. I suggest exploring #cascadingbouquet, #roundbouquet, and #pomanderbouquet to get started.

We have two posts about different bouquet styles. One is on hoop bouquets and the other is about more traditional round bouquets. If you don't know where to start, try these links to see where your heart takes you!

4. Texture

Admittedly, texture is something that your florist will tackle only after the three basic issues of color, size, and type are decided. After that, your next step is to talk about texture.

Here are a couple posts that will prepare you for this conversation when you build your own bouquet:

5. Accents

Collars were the "in" accent most recently, but what are your other options to add a little flair to your bouquet? Well, anything your heart desires, really! Beads, decorated handles, ribbons, pom-poms... the possibilities are endless!

If you feel hesitant about getting started on accents, take a look at Sandy's thoughts on collars here. This might give you an idea or two to bring to your florist at your next meeting with them!
