Build a Bouquet with Black Roses

  • Black roses have 5 votes in our flower ranking right now, which doesn't make them an extremely popular flower, but since we at Bridal Builder are trying to cater to a diverse set of brides, we are hoping to add black roses to the app sooner rather than later. They're actually one of our #14-most-popular flowers and we're looking at them before some of our other flower options because they cater to a very specific set of brides who would be lost without this very prolific flower in their bouquets. What are Black Roses?

Black roses are a favorite for bouquet-making of gothic, spooky, and darker-palette brides everywhere. It's now officially spooky season, so it's the perfect time to talk about these elegant additions to a bouquet.

What do you need to know about black roses in a bouquet?

Growing season

Black roses actually aren't grown naturally - they're dyed. Roses are known to take on dye extremely brilliantly, which is why royalty once coveted them. Roses are so popular that your florist will likely be able to get them at almost any time of the year, but if you're looking to have an environmentally-conscious wedding, you'll want to ask your florist when roses are in season in your region.

Color variety

I left this paragraph in this article for continuity's sake, but you're smart enough to know that black roses only come in one color: black. We don't have black roses in the Bridal Bouquet Builder app just yet, but for a similar effect you can use the very dark burgundy rose found in the current app version. According to Wikipedia, "The roses commonly called black roses are technically a very dark shade of red, purple or maroon."

Bloom size

According to Garden.org, roses can take many shapes and sizes. This is partially why the Bridal Bouquet Builder app has multiple rose types available. You'll want to speak with your florist about how best to use roses in your bouquet.
